Crescent Roll Pigs in a Blanket

Crescent roll pigs in the blanket

Whether you are getting ready for a game day party, kids' birthday party, or any gathering, these Crescent Roll Pigs in a Blanket are the easiest little snack you can make at home with just a handful of ingredients and very little time. And I guarantee you they'll be the first to disappear from the table.

I shared my puff pastry pigs in a blanket recipe a few years ago, but I wanted to share another variation of the recipe I make with crescent rolls. And these are extremely easy to make as well.

What you need:

If you want to keep it super super basic, you honestly need only two ingredients: a refrigerated canned crescent roll dough (I usually use Pillsbury) and mini sausages. You can even use hot dogs and cut them up into smaller pieces. I like to use smokies since it's convenient.

I also use an egg for egg washing. Also use some sesame seeds to make them look a little prettier. You can use some shredded cheese and sprinkle it 5 minutes before the crescent roll pigs in a blanket are done. Otherwise, they tend to burn or brown too much.

Here's another idea. You can brush them with a mix of melted butter and parsley before you bake them (skip the egg wash in this case). Or brush them after they are baked for more buttery flavor.

Can you make Crescent roll pigs in a blanket ahead of time

Yes! You can assemble the pigs in a blanket ahead of time and store them in the fridge. Whenever you are ready to bake, bake them directly from the fridge. No need to bring them to room temperature. You may need to add 1-2 minutes to the baking time.

You can also bake them, freeze, and reheat as necessary. Thaw them in the fridge or on the counter. Reheat in the air fryer for about 3 minutes at 340F or bake in the oven for about 4 - 5 minutes at 350F. Or heat directly from frozen. This would take about 6 - 7 minutes in the air fryer or 10 - 15 minutes in the oven.

Description

This crowd favorite, Crescent roll-pigs in the blanket, is one of the easiest snacks you can make with just a few ingredients.

Ingredients
  • 1 can of refrigerated crescent roll dough (8oz)
  • 24 mini sausages/smokies
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds (white/black or mix of both)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Crescent roll pigs in the blanket

Open the crescent roll can and unroll the dough. Carefully separate the triangles along the perforated lines.

  3. Crescent roll pigs in the blanket

Cut each triangle lengthwise into three equal long strips.

  4. Crescent roll pigs in the blanket

Place a sausage at the wider end of the triangle. Roll it toward the pointed end, loosely wrapping the dough around the sausage as you go. Place it seam-side down on a baking sheet.

  5. Crescent roll pigs in the blanket

Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the top of the dough with the beaten egg.

  6. Crescent roll pigs in the blanket

Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top.

Some people like to use Everything Bagel seasoning on their pigs in a blanket, but I find that it can make them taste a little too salty since the sausages are already quite salty. If you’re using low-sodium sausages, Everything Bagel seasoning would work really well. Otherwise, you can use sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or a dried herb blend instead.
  7. Crescent roll pigs in the blanket

Bake for 12-15 minutes at 375°F (190°C), until the dough is puffed and golden on top. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
